The Power of Insights – Why We Use it in so Many of Our Programs

It would be impossible to unlock the power of “we” without the “we”. That’s why we use Insights Discovery in so many of our programs. Insights Discovery is a framework that helps individuals understand themselves and their teammates better. While it is one of many frameworks like MBTI, Disc, etc, we find that Insights is the easiest to understand quickly and more importantly it gives teams something that other frameworks don’t: a language they can use to better communicate and good communication is the foundation of high-performing teams.

At the core of Insights Discovery, are the four “color energies” which represent different personality traits. The “Cool Blue”, “Fiery Red”, “Sunshine Yellow”, and “Earth Green” energies are present in all of us to some extent, but the levels of these energies is uniquely our own.

When participating in one of our programs where we use Insights to unlock the power of “we”, the first thing participants do is complete an evaluator which then generates a custom personality report. This report is the first step in understanding one-self better, and it builds the foundation of how we are each different from our teammates and therefor where we might experience friction.

Each person has a unique combination of the four color energies, and it’s represented visually, in an easy to understand format like this:

By showing individual’s preferences for certain color energies in this easy-to-understand format, participants quickly grasp how their behavior might be perceived by others, what their strengths and weaknesses are, and how they can adapt to others to make better connections.

Once we’ve given teams the language of Insights and the color energies, it enables much better communication within the team. And, when team members communicate openly with each other, they can let each other know what they need from others and they can even tell them when their team mates (often their opposite type) is using too much of a specific color energy.

Insights Discovery isn’t just great for team members, it’s also invaluable for team leaders. As a leader of a team, knowing the preferences of your team members will help you to understand each member, how they like to contribute, what their possible blind spots are, and how the different members are likely to interact with each other. Furthermore, it gives the leader an understanding of the color energies of the team as a whole and how this aligns with the work of the team and how other functions or departments may perceive the team.

Carl Jung famously said that advances in humankind were only possible with a better understanding of oneself, and that’s exactly what Insights enables. Understanding oneself and one’s teammates better so that collectively, they can unlock the power of “we”.
